Duncan has been laid up with a double abcess in his right front since comming home from the Down East Congress.
I started riding him a bit this last week and he stayed sound, so yesterday (Fri) we hauled to Goddard Park here in RI for a trailride.
We were the only folks on horses and there were only a handful of joggers and folks walking their dogs, so we had the trails pretty much to ourselves. He was a bit of a hand ful and at one point he got very insisitant that he was going back the way we had come. We had a brief discussion on the issue and along we went.
We did some walking and gaiting and trotting and I will tell you he was burning ground at the trot and gait. He has never felt as good and free moving as he did yesterday.
During the month of June I gave him the every 4 day shot times 7 of Adaquin IM. It worked well for him. I am sold on it as a product to help him out with this stiff joints.
I went to the barn early this am but it was already way too nasty to ride, so he got a nice cool Iodine-anti bacterial bath and they he went back under his fan with a nice pile of hay. All is well in Duncan's world.
I had thought we might not go to the National this year but I am re thinking that decision at the nmonent. After all I do have my own truck and trailer now.

Lots Going On
We got our invitation to the Sharon Camarillo Classic to be held in Sterling, Ill October 1 0 3rd.
This is an invitation only event for horses and riders who have graduated from a Sharon Clinic, which we did a few years ago. I don't remember when I have had more fun and worked so hard as I did that weekend but it was fun and she is a wonderful teacher. She does not teach Barrel Racing she teaches horsemanship and everyone could learn from Sharon no matter what you ride, if you can put your ideas about barrel racing aside and pay attention to what is going on in the ring.
Anyway, that is certainly a change to show folks just what Standardbreds can do. I'm no sure if we will go this year or not.
Then there is the NBHA World championships also in Oct in GA, we could go there also and I know we would be the ONLY Standardbred there also.
I think I am going back and do some running with him this summer to qualify him for the FIFTH time for the Worlds and get him another wild card and a state championship.
I LOVE the timer as it doesn't lie and pay off judges and all the other wonderful stuff that happens in the show ring. Besides, when we are running we are way far outside the box of what duncan was bred to do and it certainly is a lot more fun that the show or dressage ring.
So, I have to talk to the big guy and see what he wants to do and we will go from there.
We are a Plat inium sponsor at the National Standardbred Show, but, I'm not sure if we will go or not time will tell.

YES
Lots going on. Duncan is still not 100% from his abcesses, they do take time.
We bought me a GMC Sierria pick up truck to haul the trailer with. We took delivery on that yesterday.
I am trying to figure out what we are going to do the rest of this show season and I think there will be folks who will toss huge parties because of where we are not going to be, but they are jerks and do not count in Duncan's world.
I was also amazed to find out on a forum that there is ONE person in all of New England who is the begin all and end all when it comes to promoting the breed. HMMMM wonder why the rest of us bother.
Off to gas up the truck. Hope you all are stying safe in this awful weather.
